At Emily Howard Training, we believe that maintaining a positive, respectful, and focused environment is crucial for every student’s success. Behaviour and discipline are integral components of creating this atmosphere, ensuring that all students are able to learn and grow in a safe and supportive space. Students are expected to demonstrate appropriate behaviour, both in and outside of the studio, to foster a community where mutual respect, kindness, and professionalism are valued. The conduct expected from our students reflects not only their commitment to their personal development but also their responsibility to the group as a whole.

Students are expected to focus on their class, follow instructions promptly, and be fully engaged during the lesson. Any behaviour that disrupts the class, whether through talking out of turn, being inattentive, or interfering with the learning experience of others, will not be tolerated. Each student is part of a team, and their actions can directly impact the experience of their peers. Disruptions, even minor ones, can have a significant effect on the flow of the class, the ability of the teacher to give instruction, and the focus of other students. We expect all students to show respect to their teachers and fellow classmates by maintaining a positive attitude and staying focused on the lesson at hand. Students should be prepared to listen carefully, follow instructions, and strive for personal growth and improvement during each class.

While we encourage a supportive and fun environment, it is important that all students understand the importance of self-discipline and responsibility in their learning. Students are expected to take responsibility for their actions, attitude, and work ethic. When a student enters the studio, they are expected to behave in a manner that reflects their commitment to their training and respect for the space. This includes following the teacher’s instructions promptly, being respectful of the studio’s resources, and maintaining a positive and cooperative attitude towards both teachers and fellow students. Disruptive or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated, and students who consistently fail to adhere to the behaviour expectations may be subject to disciplinary action, including verbal warnings, time-outs, or even suspension from class.

Discipline also plays an important role in ensuring that students understand the consequences of their actions. While we prioritise a nurturing and supportive environment, we also believe that accountability is key to personal development. Teachers and staff are responsible for setting clear expectations and boundaries, while also offering guidance and correction when necessary. If a student’s behaviour continues to be disruptive or if they fail to adhere to the studio’s code of conduct, the issue will be addressed through a structured process. This may involve discussions with the student and their parents, where the issue is raised and potential solutions are explored. For more serious or ongoing behavioural issues, further disciplinary actions may be taken, including suspension from class or temporary removal from the studio.

We encourage parents to play an active role in reinforcing positive behaviour outside of the studio, especially when it comes to work ethic, punctuality, and respect for others. Communication between parents, students, and staff is key in addressing any behavioural concerns and resolving conflicts in a timely and constructive manner. Parents are encouraged to contact the studio if they have any concerns about their child’s behaviour, and staff will make every effort to work collaboratively with families to support the student’s development.

At Emily Howard Training, we aim to cultivate an environment where discipline supports the development of both technical skills and character. Through consistent adherence to behaviour standards and mutual respect between students, teachers, and parents, we can create a space where every student can thrive, not only as a dancer but as an individual. Discipline, in this context, is not about punishment; rather, it is a tool for fostering personal growth, responsibility, and respect for the art of dance and the community within the studio.
